Industrial strength bleach. Can be used for general cleaning and disinfection.

Sodium hypochlorite is used on a huge scale in agriculture, and industries such as chemical, paint, lime, food, glass, paper, pharmaceuticals, synthetics and waste disposal industries. It is often added to industrial waste water to reduce odors, since NaOCl neutralizes H2S and ammonia. It is also used to detoxify the cyanide baths used in metal plating processes, and to prevent algae and shellfish growth in cooling towers. It is also used to purify water supplies and swimming pools.

Storage conditions: Store in a cool, well ventilated area. Keep container tightly closed. The floor of the storage room must be impermeable to prevent the escape of liquids.

Environmental precautions: Do not discharge into drains or rivers. Contain the spillage using bunding.

Most important adverse effects: Contact with acids liberates toxic gas. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Very toxic to aquatic life.
